I must know this vocab in 6th grade.
Protaganist
The main character in a story.
Setting
Where or when the story takes place.
Plot
The events (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action) in a story
Antagonist
The opposing force that brings conflict to the protagonist.
Conflict
(Problem) The struggle between opposing forces. This drives the story.
Exposition
The first part of the plot. Characters, setting, and the basic situation are revealed.
Inciting Incident
The event that sets the story in motion. Makes rest of the story possible.
Rising Action
Main part of the story, moves plot along. Where complications arise.
Climax
The most exciting or intense part of the story for the protagonist, the OMG!, usually a turning point.
Falling Action
Events that follow the climax and lead to the resolution, conflict begins moving toward resolution.
Resolution
The end of the story, loose ends of the plot tie up, remaining questions are answered, conflicts are resolved.
Tone
The author’s attitude towards a topic, event, person, etc.
Mood
The “atmosphere” of writing, It is the emotions a text gives readers.
Connotation
the act of connoting; the suggesting of an additional meaning for a word or expression, apart from its explicit meaning.
Denotation
a word that names or signifies something specific.
