Setting
When and where the story takes place
Plot
The events (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution) in a story
Protagonist
Leading character in a story
Antagonist
The opposing force that brings conflict
Complications
(Problem) The struggle between opposing forces (THIS DRIVES THE STORY)
Exposition
The beginning of a story (This is where the characters and setting are introduced)
Inciting Incident
The event that sets the story in motion and makes the story possible
Rising Action
Where complications arise or moves the plot along
Climax
The turning point where its the most intense part of the story
Falling Action
Events that follow the climax and lead to solving the problem
Resolution
Is where the conflicts are solved
Mood
The ‘‘atmosphere’’ of writing. The the emotions the text gives the reader.
Tone
The author’s attitude towards a topic, event, person, etc.
Connotation
an idea or feeling that a word invokes in addition to its literal or primary meaning.
Denotation
the literal or primary meaning of a word, in contrast to the feelings or ideas that the word suggests.
