1924 - Italy received Fiume, Italian-speaking town in Yugoslavia - great prestige for Mussolini.
When did Mussolini sign the Anti-Comintern Pact and with which power(s)?
November 1937 with Japan and Germany
When did Italy join World War Two?
June 1940
What was the Stresa Front?
March 1935 - Mussolini joins Britain and France to organise response to German threat
What happened in 1923?
- Italian general and four staff assassinated in Greece.
- Muss blames Greek Gov demands full apology and 50 million lira compensation
- They refuse, Muss bombards and occupies Corfu.
- European powers (led by Britain) demand they withdraw
- Duce agrees but no apology only compensation
- Hailed as big success in Italy- promote Fascist power and prestige.
What happened in 1928?
Muss signed the Kellogg-Briandt Pact outlawing war but then dismisses it to the SAME parliament
When was the Abyssinian/Ethiopian war and what happened/result?
October 1935- Italy invaded Ethiopia,
December 1934 -at Wal-Wal Oasis 30 Italian soldiers were killed
League of Nations enquiry- Muss not interested already secretly ordered total conquest of Ethiopia
Ruthless- gas; aerial bombing no chance for Africans.
He was popular in Italy as successful but Britain & France outraged order economic sanctions on Italy could have closed Suez Canal but they didn’t bother.

July 1936-1939 submits 40,000 troops, 4,000 dead, 8 billion lira - success but not really for Italy
What did the Rome-Berlin Axis mean and when was it signed?
1936 - Italy will go to Mediterranean and Germany to Eastern Europe and Baltic -Hitler mentions war Muss sees a supreme test
When was the Treaty of Friendship signed and what did it entail?
1926- between Italy and Albania (Albania essentially become satellite state controlled by Italy) due to Muss thinking could push Yugoslavia around hence why he supplied Zog with money and employed Italian officers as advisers to Albanian Army (1924)
When did Germany carry out Anschluss without consulting the Duce?
March 1938
What was the Pact of Steel and when it was signed?
May 1939 - military alliance between Italy and Germany Italy must enter war with Germany
