Presto
A movement or piece in quick tempo
Chorale Prelude
A composition usually for organ that is based on a chorale or other hymn tune and is typically composed of two or more separate melodies that sound together
Maestoso
A directive to perform the designated passage of a composition in a stately, dignified, majestic fashion
Marziale
A piece with a military feeling
Pomposo
Pompous, stately, or ceremonious style
Tempo I or tempo primo
A return to the song’s original speed, usually after a diversion from that original tempo
Scherzo
In the 17th century, it was a lively, playful character with a playful rhythm; A-B-A form usually in triple meter
Nocture
Some aspect of the night, usually a serenade; solemn and contemplative
March
Usually in 2/4, 6/8, or 4/4 time; parades, procession, or martial affairs
Sonatina
No single definition; in sonata form but shorter and lighter; more elementary technicality than a regular sonata
Serenade
A performance or instrumental music in the open air at night, or a piece of music suitable for such a performance
