Time

A

The number of beats that the music is divided into.

Time signature

A

Gives the number of beats per bar. The time signature is given at the start, next to the G-clef. For example: 2/4 or 6/8.

2 beats in a bar and the quarternote lasts for 1 beat and

6 beats in a bar and the eighth note lasts for 1 beat.

The lowest number tells you which note gets 1 beat. With the rest of the notes you can calculate how many beats they are.
