Q

TRS CABLE USE

A

affix balanced equipment

if equipment is unbalanced and a TRS is used you will not get a balanced signal, combining left and right mono channels

Q

WHAT HAPPENS TO A SOUND WHEN TRAVELLING THROUGH A BALANCED CABLE

A
  • balanced cable contains 3 connections, hot + cold - and ground
  • cold signal is polarity inverted version of that signal
  • when signals reach destination the cold signals polarity inverts again
  • polarity of both signals are the same, but the noise polarity is the opposite in the hot and cold signals
  • the combination of the signals cancels out the noise and makes the signal twice as lound

Q

MODULATION DEFINITION

A

something that changes the original sound or signal over time. Modulating a sound can add a sense of movement, add or change dimension, or create depth.

9
Q

what are the 3 factors of LFO

A

RATE - at which speed the modulation takes place e.g. 1/8 1/16 etc can be synced to bpm
DEPTH - how much the modulation affect the assigned element of the synthesiser
SHAPE - type of waveform used to modulate

Q

WHAT MICS DOES THE HAMMOND ROTATING (Leslie speaker) HAVE ?

A
  • top mic. cardoid (condenser)

- bottom mic figure of 8 (ribbon)

17
Q

HOW DOES THE HAMMOND ROTATING (Leslie speaker) WORK ?

A

has an external switch / pedal that can alternate between a slow and fast speed setting. this creates tremolo

  • the tremolo is created by a baffle chamber rotating in the front of the loud speakers.
18
Q

HOW TO RECORD A HAMMOND ROTATING (Leslie speaker) + difficulties

A

HOW

use mid side recording technique

  • to capture the stereo width of the tremolo point the mics at the top of the speaker

DIFFiCULTIES

mid side recording technique could create difficulties as both mics are recording the same signal,

this could encounter phase issues
signals cancel out each other - when signal 1 is inverted in polarity and both signals are 180 degrees out of phase with each other this happens
