What plugin should you use before anything else?
Gain
Loudest to quietest in the mix?
- Drums
- Vocals
- Bass
ETC.
What should you do if the overall balance is good, but its clipping in the stereo out?
Turn EVERYTHING down a few dbs
EQ - Orange
Orange = low shelf or high cut (sounds more tinny)
EQ - Green
Green = parometric band
EQ - Purple
Purple = high shelf or low cut (sounds like more bass)
EQ - Red
RED Hi pass filter = cuts the lows and allows the highs to pass
EQ - Pink
PINK Low pass =
(these two are different to shelfs as they completely cut them out, different to a shelf where you can control how much you want to cut out)
EQ - HIGH
High - above 5000 Hz
EQ - HIGH MIDS
High Mids - 2000 - 5000 Hz
EQ - MIDS
Mids - 500 - 2000 Hz
EQ - LOW MIDS
Low Mids - 200 - 500 Hz
EQ - BASS
Bass - around 100 - 200 Hz
EQ - SUB BASS
Sub bass - below 90-100 Hz
What should you do when you first open the compressor?
Turn off auto-gain
What does the Threshold do in a compressor?
The threshold determines the point at which the compressor will become active
What’s ratio in compression?
Ratio refers to how much gain reduction is applied once the threshold has been reached
What does a high ratio mean?
More extreme the compression will be
What does the Make Up Gain mean in compression?
Allows you to compensate for the gain reduction the compressor has applied
What does the attack do in compression?
The Attack setting controls how long the compressor takes to compress the signal
