What is compartment syndrome?

A

When damaged muscles swell and increase the pressure inside fascia. This cuts off the blood supply and can cause paralysis, necrosis or tissue death.

Rules of gout:

A
  1. Treat the acute attack before you start to lower the uric acid levels systemically
  2. Gout can flare up when you start or stop urate lowering therapy
  3. Do not stop urate lowering therapy during an acute attack of gout
  4. measure uric acid levels monthly
