Musculoskeletal nerve Flashcards
What roots is the Musculoskeletal nerve made up from?
C5, C6, C7
What is the origin of the nerve?
Lateral cord
From anterior divisions of superior and middle trunks
What is the course?
Leaves axilla by piercing the coracobrachialis, passes beneath biceps muscle, ends as lateral cutaneous nerve of forearm
What sensory aspects does the nerve supply?
Skin of lateral forearm
What motor features does the nerve supply?
Anterior compartment of the arm (BBC)
Biceps- Flex elbow, supinates forearm
Brachialis- Flexes elbow
Corachobrachialis- Flexes and adducts arm at the glenohumeral joint
How could the nerve be injured?
Protected by biceps so injury is rare
Stab wound
What would the result of an injury be?
Numbness over lateral forearm
Wasting of anterior compartment
Weak elbow flexion, forearm supination
Absent biceps reflex
