Musculocutaneous & Axillary Nerves Flashcards
What is the source of the musculocutaneous nerve?
Lateral cord of the brachial plexus
C5-7
What is the path of the musculocutaneous nerve in the arm?
leaves axilla
runs down and laterally to pierce coracobrachialis
passes distally between biceps and brachialis
what is the path of the musculocutaneous nerve in the forearm?
emerges between biceps and brachialis
runs laterally to biceps tendon
pierces brachial fascia lateral to biceps tendon
passes superficially to cubital fossa
runs laterally down the forearm as the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm (anterior and posterior branch)
what does the musculocutaneous nerve innervate?
the anterior compartment of the arm (biceps brachii, brachialis and coracobrachialis)
the lateral skin of the forearm (posterior and anterior)
What is the source of the axillary nerve?
terminal branch of the posterior cord
C5-6
what is the path of the axillary nerve?
located in quadrangular space in posterior shoulder (with posterior circumflex humeral artery)
winds around surgical neck of humerus
gives off superior lateral brachial cutaneous nerve
what does the axillary nerve innervate?
deltoid
teres minor
