Muscular System Flashcards
Adductors
Located in the thigh, used to adduct the thigh
Biceps Brachii
Between the elbow and shoulder, assisting in lifting the forearm.
Biceps Fermoris
To the back side or posterior of the thigh. Bends the knee and move the hip backwards.
Buccinators
It forms the anterior part of the cheek or the lateral wall of the oral cavity, holds the cheek to your teeth and assists with chewing.
Deltoid
Located on the top of the shoulder and uppermost part of the arm, preforms abduction of the shoulder.
Extensors
A muscle whose contraction extends or straightens a limb or other part of the body
External intercostals
They are on ribs 1-11 and assist in inhaling.
External oblique
They three most superficial of the abdominal muscles.Used for flexion or rotation of the trunk
Fibularis longus
Is a superficial lateral component of the peroneus muscles. Assists in moving you calf of the leg.
Flexors
Inner hip muscles, flexes the hip.
Frontalis
It is located on the front of the head. The muscle has no bony attachments.
Gastrocnemia
forms half of the calf muscle. Its function is plantar flexing the foot at the ankle joint and flexing the leg at the knee joint.
Gluteus Maximus
he main extensor muscle of the hip. It is the largest and most superficial of the three gluteal muscles and makes up a large portion of the shape and appearance of each side of the hips.
Gluteus Medius
is a broad, thick, radiating muscle, situated on the outer surface of the pelvis
Internal Oblique
is a muscle in the abdominal wall that lies below the external oblique and just above the transverse abdominal muscles
Latissimus Dorsi
flat muscle on the back that stretches to the sides, behind the arm, and is partly covered by the trapezius on the back near the midline
Masseter
muscle is a facial muscle that plays a major role in the chewing of solid foods. The muscle is shaped similar to a parallelogram
Orbicularis Oculi
is a muscle in the face that closes the eyelids. It arises from the nasal part of the frontal bone, from the frontal process of the maxilla in front of the lacrimal groove,
Orbicularis Oris
muscle is a complex of muscles in the lips that encircles the mouth
Pectoralis Major
is a thick, fan-shaped muscle, situated at the chest
Rectus Abdominus
is a paired muscle running vertically on each side of the anterior wall of the human abdomen
Rectus Femoris
muscle is one of the four quadriceps muscles
Sartorius
longest muscle in the human body. It is a long, thin, superficial muscle that runs down the length of the thigh in the anterior compartment
Semimembranosus
is the medial-most of the three hamstring muscles. It is so named because it has a flat tendon of origin. It lies posteromedially in the thigh, deep to the semitendinosus.
Semitendinosus
muscle is one of three hamstring muscles that are located at the back of the thigh. The other two are the semimembranosus muscle and the biceps femoris.
Soleus
is a powerful muscle in the back part of the lower leg
Sternocleidomastoid
is a long muscle in the side of the neck that extends up from the thorax to the base of the skull behind the ear
Temporalis
It is a broad, fan-shaped muscle on each side of the head that fills the temporal fossa, superior to the zygomatic arch so it covers much of the temporal bone
Tibialis anterior
Is a muscle that originates in the upper two-thirds of the lateral surface of the tibia and inserts into the medial cuneiform and first metatarsal bones of the foot
Trapezius
Is one of the major muscles of the back and is responsible for moving, rotating, and stabilizing the scapula
Triceps brachii
Muscle is a large muscle on the back of the upper limb of many vertebrates. It is the muscle principally responsible for extension of the elbow joint
Vastus lateralis
Is a muscle present in the anterior compartment of thigh, and is one of the four muscles that make up the quadriceps muscle
Vastus medialis
Is an extensor muscle located medially in the thigh that extends the knee
Zygomaticus
It is a muscle of facial expression which draws the angle of the mouth superiorly and posteriorly to allow one to smile
Quadriceps
Femoris muscle, large fleshy muscle group covering the front and sides of the thigh
Hamstring
Is one of the three posterior thigh muscles in between the hip and the knee
