MUSCULAR SYSTEM Flashcards
What are the 3 main Types of Muscle Tissue?
What is the Structure of Skeletal Muscle?
What are the REGIONS OF A SKELETAL MUSCLE
- Origin: Attachment to a stationary bone.
- Insertion: Attachment to the bone that moves.
- Body: The main part of the muscle.
What is the Muscle Fiber Structure?
What are the Functions of Skeletal Muscles?
MUSCLE CONTRACTION
What are the Effects of Exercise?
*Strength Training: Increases the number of myofilaments, causing muscle hypertrophy.
*Endurance Training: Increases muscle efficiency, oxygen delivery, and mitochondrial density without increasing muscle mass.
What are the Major Muscle Groups?
Angular movements
*Flexion: Decreases an angle
*Extension: Increases an angle
*Abduction: Away from the midline
*Adduction: Toward the midline
Circular movements
*Rotation: Around an axis
*Circumduction: Move the distal end of a part in a circle
*Supination and pronation: Hand positions that result from twisting the forearm
Special movements
*Dorsiflexion: the dorsum, or top, of the foot is elevated with the toes pointing upward
*Plantar flexion: the bottom of the foot is directed downward so that you are, in effect, standing on your toes
-Inversion: turn the ankle so that the bottom of the foot faces toward the body’s midline.
-Eversion: turns the ankle so that the bottom of the foot faces toward the side of the body
