muscular dystrophy (MD) Flashcards
Muscular dystrophy (MD)
refers to a group of genetic diseases that cause progressive weakness and degeneration of skeletal muscles
characterstic :
Inherited
Hypertrophy d/t fatty deposits in
muscles & progressive weakness
Death from respiratory complications
increased risk at :
Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy
Etiology :
Disease of muscles or problem with nervous system
Dx
Muscle Biopsy (Bx)
the removal of a sample of tissue for examination or other study
Diagnostic Testing
1-Electromyogram (EMG)
2-Electromyography
3-Electromyograph
EMG
measures muscle response or electrical activity in response to a nerve’s stimulation of the muscle.
Electromyography (EMG)
measures muscle response or electrical activity in response to a nerve’s stimulation of the muscle
Electromyography (EMG)
