Splenius Capitis and Splenius Cervicis
-Together = Extension of head/neck
-Singly = Abduct/rotate head toward same side
Semispinalis
(thoracis, cervicis, capitis)
Extends vertebral column and the head (capitis), rotates them to opposite side
Spinalis
(thoracis, cervicis)
Extends the vertebral column
Longissimus
(thoracis, cervicis, capitis)
Extends the vertebral column and head; rotates the head toward the same side
Iliocostalis
(lumborum, thoracis, cervicis)
Extends the vertebral column and bends it to one side
Multifidus
Extends the vertebral column; rotates it toward the opposite side
Rotatores
Extends the vertebral column; rotates it toward the opposite side
Interspinales
Extends the vertebral column
Intertransversarii
Assists in lateral flexion of the spine; stabilizes the spine
Quadratus Lumborum
Fixes the 12th rib during inspiration, trunk extension, lateral flexion of trunk (ipsilateral)
