Muscles of the Hip, Knee, and Lower Leg Flashcards
Concentric Contractions
involved muscle developing tension as it shortens; against gravity
Eccentric Contractions
involve the muscle lengthening under tension; slow with gravity
Isometric contraction
tension is developed within muscle but joint angles remain constant; static contractions
Agonist Muscles
primary or prime movers, or muscles most involved
Antagonist muscles
located on opposite side of joint from agonist; work in cooperation with agonist muscles by relaxing & allowing movement; when contracting concentrically perform the opposite joint motion of agonist
Gastrocnemius muscle
plantar flexion of ankle, flexion of knee
Soleus Muscle
plantar flexion of ankle
Peroneus Longus Muscle
Eversion of foot, plantar flexion of ankle
Peroneus Brevis
eversion of foot, plantar flexion of ankle
Peroneus Tertius
Eversion of foot, Dorsiflexion of ankle
Extensor Digitorum Longus
Extension of four lesser toes, dorsiflexion of ankle, eversion of foot
Extensor Hallucis Longus
Dorsiflexion of ankle, extension of great toe, weak inversion of foot
Tibialis Anterior
*shin splint muscles* Dorsiflexion of anke, inversion of foot
Tibialis Posterior
Plantar flexion of ankle, Inversion of foot
Flexor Digitorum Longus
Flexion of 4 lesser toes, inversion of foot, plantar flexion of ankle
Flexor Hallucis Longus
Flexion of great toe, Inversion of foot, Plantar flexion of ankle
