Origin: pubic crest and symphysis pubis
Insertion: Costal cartilage of ribs 5-7 and xyphoid process
Action: Flexes vertebral column
Rectus Abdominis muscle
Termination of posterior rectus sheath 1/2 way between umbilicus and pubis at level of iliac crest
Acrcuate line
Origin: lower 8 ribs
Insertion: Iliac crest and linea alba
Action: Compresses abdominal contents, lateral rotation, draws thorax downward
External abdominal oblique muscle
Asis to pubic tubercle, inferior aspect of external abdominal oblique muscle.
Inguinal ligament
Origin: iliac crest, inguinal ligament, fascia of back
Insertion: linea alba and costal cartilage of last 3 ribs
Action: Same as EAO
Internal Abdominal Oblique muscle
Raises and lowers the testicles, slip off of the internal abdominal oblique muscle
Cremaster muscle
Origin: iliac crest, inguinal ligament, lumbar fascia, costal cartilage of last 6 ribs
Insertion: Xyphoid process, linea alba, pubis
Action: Compresses the abdominal contents
Transverse abdominis muscle
Origin: iliac crest, lower 3 lumbar vertebrae
Insertion: 12th rib and upper 4 lumbar vertebrae
Action: lateral flexion of vertebrae column
Quadratic lumborum muscle
