Muscles Of Pectoral Region Flashcards
What are the muscles in the pectoral region? (PS)²
Pectoralis major
Pectoralis minor
Subclavius
Serratus anterior
What is the origin/origins and attachment of the pectoralis major muscle?
It has two heads
Sternal head: first six costal ribs
Clavicular head: medial third of the clavicle
Attachment is to the intertubacular sulcus
What is the function of the pectoralis major muscle?three
It adducts and medially rotates the upper limb,it places the scapular anterioinferiorly to the ribcage,it individually flexes the upper limb from the clavicle.
What is the shape of a pectoralis major muscle?
Its a fan shaped muscle.
What’s the innervation of the pectoralis major?
Medial pectoral nerve and lateral pectoral nerve
What is the origin and attachement of the pectoralis minor muscle?
Originates from the 3-5 ribs
And inserts onto the coracoid process of the scapula
What is the function of the pectoralis minor?
It draws the scapula anterioinferiorly.
What is the innervation of the pectoralis minor?
Medial pectoral nerve
What supplies the pectoralis minor?
The thoracoacromial artery
What supplies the pectoralis major muscle?
The pectoral branch of the thoracoacromial artery
The superior thoracic artery and lateral thoracic artery
What is the origin and insertion of the serratus anterior muscle?
It originates from the lateral part of the 1-8 ribs.
It insertd onto the anterior part of the medial third of the clavicle
What is the function of the serrstus anterior muscle?
It allows the arm to be rotated over 90 degrees and it also holds the scapula against the ribcage
What is the innervation of the serratud anterior muscle?
The long thoracic nerve
What is the origin and attachment of the subclavius muscle?
It originates ftom the junction between the 1st rib and uts costal cartilage
It inserts unto the medial part if the clavicle
What is the function of the subclavius muscle?
It anchors and depresses the clavicle
