Superior head: roof of infratemporal fossa - greater wing of sphenoid
Inferior head: Lateral surface of lateral pterygoid plate

Superior: Pterygoid fovea, TMJ capsule and disk
Inferior: Pterygoid fovea
Lateral pterygoid muscle - Action
Acting alone: move mandible to opposite side
Acting together: protrude mandible, pulls articular disk forward, depress
Medial pterygoid - Origin
Lateral pterygoid plate and maxillary tuberosity
Medial pterygoid - Insertion
Ramus of mandible
