Muscles of Hand (Action) Flashcards
Abductor pollicis brevis
abduct the thumb and helps oppose it
Flexor pollicis brevis
flexes the thumb at the
carpometacarpal and
metacarpophalangeal joints and
aids in opposition of the thumb.
Opponens pollicis
to oppose the thumb and it draws 1
st metacarpal medially to center of palm and
rotates it medially at the carpometacarpal joint during opposition
This movement occurs when picking up an object.
Adductor pollicis
adducts the thumb toward lateral
border of palm.
giving the power to the grip.
Abductor digiti minimi
abducts 5th digit; assists in flexion of its proximal phalanx.
Flexor digiti minimi brevis
flexes proximal phalanx of 5th digit at metacarpophalangeal joint.
Opponens digiti
draws 5th metacarpal anterior and rotates it laterally.thereby deepening the hollow
of the palm and bringing 5th digit into opposition with thumb. Acts at carpometacarpal joint.
Palmaris brevis muscle
corrugates skin to improve grip of the palm.
Lumbricals
The lumbricals pass dorsally around the lateral side of each finger, and insert into the extensor hood. The tendons of the muscles are anterior to the deep transverse metacarpal ligaments.
link flexor tendons with extensor tendons.
Through their insertion into the extensor hoods, they participate in flexing the metacarpophalangeal joints and extending the interphalangeal joints.
Palmar interossei
Acting alone they adduct fingers upon which they act.
Dorsal interossei
- Acting alone they abduct fingers upon which they act.
- Acting together with lumbricals they produce writing position
