Muscles of Forearm Flashcards
What is the origin insertion and action for pronator teres
Origin - medial epicondyle of humerus + coronoid process of ulna
Insertion - middle of lateral surface of radius
Action - pronates forearm and assists elbow flexion
What is the origin insertion and action for pronator quadratus
Origin - distal part of anterior surface of shaft of ulna
Insertion - distal part of anterior surface of shaft of radius
Action - pronates forearm and stabilises the bones (inf RU jt) in weight bearing
What are muscles are in the anterior compartment
Pronator teres
Pronator quadratus
What muscles are in the posterior compartment
Brachioradialis
Supinator
What is the origin insertion and action for brachioradialis
Origin - lateral supracondylar ridge of humerus
Insertion - lateral surface of radius above the styloid process
Action - flexes elbow when forearm is mid prone, returns forearm from full supination or full pronation to mid range
What is the origin insertion and action for supinator
Origin - Lateral epicondyle of humerus, radial collateral and annular ligaments, supinator fossa and crest of ulna
Insertion - lateral posterior and anterior surfaces of proximal 1/3 of radius
Action - supinates forearm
