Muscles of Anterior Cervical Region Flashcards
Suprahyoid muscles
- Mylohyoid m.
- Geniohyoid m.
- Stylohyoid m.
- Digastric m.
Mylohyoid m. - origin
Mylohyoid line of mandible
Mylohyoid m. - insertion
Mylohyoid raphe and body of hyoid
Mylohyoid m. - innervation
N. to mylohyoid, branch of inferior alveolar n. (from mandibular n. CN V3)
Geniohyoid m. - origin
Inferior mental spine of mandible
Geniohyoid m., Stylohyoid m. - insertion
Body of hyoid
Geniohyoid m. - innervation
C1 via hypoglossal n. (CN XII)
Geniohyoid m. - action
- Pulls hyoid anterosuperiorly
- shortens floor of mouth
- widens pharynx
Mylohyoid m. - action
- elevates hyoid, floor of mouth, and tongue during swallowing and speaking
Stylohyoid m. - origin
Styloid process of temporal bone
Stylohyoid m. - innervation
Stylohyoid branch of facial n. (CN VII)
Stylohyoid m. - action
elevates and retracts hyoid, thus elongating floor of mouth
Digastric m. - origin
- anterior belly: digastric fossa of mandible
- posterior belly: mastoid notch of temporal bone
Digastric m. - insertion
Both bellies - intermediate tendon to body and greater horn of hyoid
Digastric m. - innervation
- anterior belly: n. to mylohyoid, branch of inferior alveolar n.
- inferior belly: digastric branch of facial n. (CN VII)
