Styloid process of temporal bone
Stylohyoid m. - innervation
Stylohyoid branch of facial n. (CN VII)
Stylohyoid m. - action
elevates and retracts hyoid, thus elongating floor of mouth
Digastric m. - origin
- anterior belly: digastric fossa of mandible
- posterior belly: mastoid notch of temporal bone
Digastric m. - insertion
Both bellies - intermediate tendon to body and greater horn of hyoid
Digastric m. - innervation
- anterior belly: n. to mylohyoid, branch of inferior alveolar n.
- inferior belly: digastric branch of facial n. (CN VII)
Digastric m. - action
- working with infrahyoid m., depresses mandible against resistance
- elevates and steadies hyoid during swallowing and speaking
