Muscles of Anterior and Medial Femoral Flashcards
Iliacus
Flexion and lateral rotation of thigh
Femoral N (L2,3)
Psoas Major
Non weight bearing: Flexes and laterally rotates thigh
Weight Bearing: Flexes trunk and side bends to same side
Nerve: Ventral Rami of spinal nerves L1,2,3
Sartorius
Flexes leg and medially rotates
Flexes thigh and laterally rotates
Abducts lower limb when extended
Femoral N
O: ASIS I: Pes Anerinus
Rectus Femoris
O: Straight Head = AIIS, Reflected = superior brim of acetabulum
I: Patella to tibial tuberosity via Patellar Ligament
A: Flexion of thigh, extension of leg
N: Femoral
Vastus Lateralis, Medialis, Intermedius
Extension of leg
Medialis: assists in maintaining proper patellar tracking
Femoral N
Articularis Genu
Lower femur to synovial membrane of knee
A: prevents synovial membrane from becoming trapped between patella and femur when leg is extended
Femoral N
Medial Femoral Muscles
Pectinus Adductor Longus Adductor Brevis Adductor Magnus Gracilis Obturator Externus
Pectinus
O: Superior Ramus
I: Pectineal line of femur
A: Adduction, Flexion, assists in rotation of thigh
N: Femoral, Obturator, accessory obturator
Adductor Longus
O: Pubis
I: Medial lip linea aspera
A: Flexion, Adduction, assists in rotation of thigh
N: Obturator (ant division)
Adductor Brevis
O: Inferior pubic ramus
I: Upper 1/2 linea aspera
A: Flexion, addution, assists in rotation of thigh
N: Obturator (ant division)
Adductor Magnus
O: Ishiopubic Ramus
I: Lesser trochanter to adductor tubercle
A: Entire muscle adducts thigh
Proximal: adducts and flexes thigh, assists in rotation
Distal: Adducts and extends thigh, assists in rotation
N: Proximal: Obturator
Distal: Tibial
Gracilis
O: Inferior pubic ramus
I: Pes anserinus
A: Adducts thigh; flexes and medially rotates leg
N: Obturator (ant division)
Obturator Externus
O: Obturator membrane and foramen
I: Trachanteric Fossa
A: Lateral rotation of thigh
N: Obturator (post divison)
What muscles for the pes anserinus?
Sartorius
Gracilis
Semitendinous
- All flex and medially rotate the tibia when tibia is flexed
