Muscles Attachments Flashcards
What is the origin of the Deltoid muscle?
Anterolateral clavicle and the acromial process of the scapula
Where does the Deltoid muscle insert into?
Deltoid tuberosity of the humerus
What are the 4 different muscles that make up the rotator cuff?
Supraspinator, infraspinator, Teres Minor and subscapularis
Where does the Teres Minor orginate and insert?
Posteriorlateral board of the scapularis and inserts onto the Greater tubercle
Where does the subscarpularis originate and insert ?
Originates at the subscapula fossa and inserts onto the lesser tubercle
Where do the supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscle originate and insert
infra and supraspinatus fossa and both insert onto the greater tubercle
Where does the Biceps bracchii originate and insert?
Originates from the coracoid process and supraglenoid tubercle and inserts onto the biceptal radial tuberosity
Where does the tricep brachii originate and insert?
Originates from the posterior surface of the scapula and the infraglenoid tubercle and inserts into the olecranon process of the ulna
What are the 2 muscles invovled in pronation of the hand?
Pronator Teres and the Pronator quadratus
What muscle is used for supination?
Supinator - Stretches from the lateral epicondyle to the lateral proximal shaft of the radius
Where does the pronator teres stretch?
Medial epicondyle to the lateral midshaft of the radius
Where does the pronator quadratus stretch?
Distal radius shaft to distal ulnar shaft
Name a extrinsic hand muscle
Flexor digitorium superficialus
Whta is the flexor digitorum supercilialus and where does it originate and insert?
It is an extrinsic hand muscle and originates from the medial epicondyle of the humerus and stretches to the intermediate phalanx of each finger
What are the 3 main intrinsic hand muscle groups?
Thenar(thumb), Hypothenar(little finger), Midpalmer groups(in between thumb and pinky)
Where does the gluteus maximus originate and insert?
Origin:
posterior to posterior gluteal line of illum
lateral sacrum
Insertions:
illiotibial tract gluteal tuberosity of the femur
What are the 4 muscles that make up the quadracepts femoris?
- Vastus lateralis
- Vastus medialis
- Vastus intermedius
- Rectus Femoris
Which muscle of the quadracepts femoris extend from the hip to the tibia?
Rectus femoris
Where does the tibialis anterior originate and insert?
Origin:
Lateral condyle
Anterolatero surface of tibia
Insert:
Medial cuneiform
1st metatarsal
Where does the gastrocnemius originate and insert?
Origin
Medial and lateral fermoral condyles
Insertions
Calcanuim tuberosity via Calcanium tendon
What are the 4 main groups of muscles in the abdomain?
Rectus abdominis
External abdominal obliques
Internal abdominal oblique
Transverse abdominis
Where does the rectus abdominis stretch and what movement does it facilitate?
Stretches from the sternum to the pubis
invovled in lumbar flexion
What muscle is involved in lumbar flexion?
Rectus abdominis
Where does the external abdominal obliques stretch and what movement are they involved in?
Ribs 5-12 to illiac crest and pubis
Involved in lateral flexion and rotation of the spine
What is invovled in lateral rotation and rotation of the spine?
External abdominal obliques
Where do the internal abdominal obliques stretch and what movement are they involved in?
Ribs 10-12
Costal cartilages 7-10
pubis to illiac crest
invovled in rotation of spine and lateral flexion
What type of muscles stretches from Ribs 10-12, costal cartilages and pubis to illiac crest?
Internal abdominal obliques
Where do the transverse abdominis stretch and what movement are they involved in?
Illiac crest and costal cartilages 7-12 to pubis
involved in compression of abdomen.
What muscle is involved in compression of the abdomen?
Transverse abdominis
How many muscles make up the erector spinae and where are they found(general sense)?
9 and in the back
Where do the proximal attachments of the spine attach to?
spinous process of C1 - T2
Where do the distal attachments of the back to?
T9 - T12
illiac crest
Sacrum
What is the function of the erector spinae?
Extension and lateral flexion of the spine
