Muscles And Actions Upper Limb Flashcards
Pectoralis major
Adducts and medially rotates the upper limb
Draws scapula anteroinferiorly
Clavicular head acts to flex upper lib
Pectoralis minor
Stabilises the scapula by drawing it anteroinferiorly against the thoracic wall
Serratus anterior
Rotates the scapula and allows arm to be raised over 90 degrees
Hold scapula against the rib cage
Subclavius
Anchors and depresses the clavicle
Deltoid- anterior fibres
Flexion and medial rotation
Deltoid- posterior fibres
Extension and lateral rotation
Deltoid- medial fibres
The major abductor of the arm (takes over from supraspinatus at 15 degrees)
Teres major
Abducts the arm 0-15 degrees
Assists deltoid for 15- 90 degrees
Subscapularis
Medially rotates the upper arm
Infrascapularis
Laterally rotates
Supraspinatus
Abducts the arm 0-15 degrees
Teres minor
Laterally rotates the arm
Suprasinatus
Abducts the arm0-15 degrees and si it’s deltoid for 15-90
Trapezius - upper fibres
Elevate the scapula and rotate it during abduction of the arm
Trapezius- middle fibres
Retract the scapula
Trapezius- lower fibres
Pull scapula inferiorly
Latissimus dorsi
Extends adducts and medially rotates the upper limb
Levator scapulae
Elevates the scapula
