Muscles Flashcards
How do muscles attach?
Across a joint with at least two attachments
How do muscles produce movement?
ALWAYS pull and get shorter (distal moves to proximal; insertion moves to origin (anchor))
What do striations always point to?
Attachments and shoe direction of pull
When a muscle moves ventral to ventral (angle decreases)
Flexor
Muscles move the dorsal side to the dorsal side (angle increases)
Extensor
Filaments
Smallest components of m+ tissue
Myofibrils
Filaments clustered together
Muscle fibers
Myofibrils clustered together
Fascicle
A cluster of muscle fibers
Muscle
Fascicles clustered together
Sarcomere
The functional unit of the muscle cell/fiber where the actual contraction happens
z line to z line is one Sarcomere
Z-line
Thin actin filaments are anchored here
A band
Thick myosin filaments
I band
Thin actin filaments
H Zone
Space between filaments
