Muscle Tissue Flashcards
Skeletal
Struture: long, cylindrical, multnucleated cells
Function: voluntary movement; locomotion, manipulation of environment
Location: skeletal muscles attached to bones or ocassionaly to skin
Cardiac
Structure: branching, striated, generally unicleated cells, discs
Function: As it contracts it propels blood into the circulation; involuntary control
Location: walls of the heart
Smooth
Structure: spindle shaped cells with central nuclei, cells arranged closely to form sheets
Function: propels subtances or objects along internal passagewats, involuntary control
Location: mostly in the walls of hollow organs
Nervous Tissue
Structure: neurons are branching cells, long extend from the nucleus contiang cell body
Function: transmit electrical signals from sensory receptiors and to effectors (muscles and glads) which control their activity
Location: Brain,spinal, cord, and nerves
