Muscle skeletal Flashcards
osteoblasts
build! function in bone formation
osteocytes
mature bone cells that function in bone maintenance
osteoclasts
multinuclear that function in destroying, resorbing and remodeling bone
How much calcium per day
800-1200
How much vitamin d
400-800
bone healing phase 1
formation of hematoma, growth of new blood vessels, granulation within clot (reactive phase)
bone healing phase 2
osteoblasts convert soft callus to hard callus of woven bone, can last 3-4 weeks (reparative phase)
bone healing phase 3
osteoblasts and osteoclasts replace disorganized woven bone with mature lamellar bone. can last months to years (remodeling phase)
arthrography
contrast day injected into joint cavity to visualize joint structures etc. Put thru range of motion and x-rays taken
bone scan used to detect
metastatic and primary bone tumors, osteomyelitis, aseptic necrosis
bone scan things to know
empty bladder, may experience warmth or flushing, drink plenty of fluids to distribute and eliminate isotope, no radioactive biohazard, make sure no allergies
fosamax, biophosphates
empty stomach, full glass of water, sit up 30-60 minutes
arthroscopy
allows direct visualization, general anesthesia, wrap with compression dressing, ice, elevation
athrocentesis
joint aspiration to obtain synovial fluid for purposes of examination and to releive pain due to effusion. may inject joint with medication, normally fluid is clear, asceptic technique, sterile bandage, ice for 24-48 hours
electrography
provides info about muscle potential, evaluates muscle, pain and disability. Needle electrodes are inserted into select muscles. contraindicated if on anticoagulants or extensive skin infection. No lotions.
