Muscle Fibres Flashcards
1
Q
How can a pushing force be applied when muscles can only pull?
A
Muscles are applying an equal force but don’t change shape.
2
Q
Type 1 (slow twitch)
A
Contract slowly with less force.
Slow to fatigue - longer duration exercises.
Contain many mitochondria.
3
Q
Type 2a (fast oxidative)
A
Fast contracting, producing great force.
Resistant to fatigue.
Less reliant on oxygen.
Fatigue faster than slow twitch.
4
Q
Type 2x (fast glycolytic)
A
Contracts rapidly; large amount of force.
Fatigue easily.
Better suited for anaerobic exercise.
5
Q
Acute responses
A
Increased blood supply Increased muscle temperature Increase in muscle pliability Microtears DOMS
6
Q
Long term adaptations
A
hypertrophy
Improve tendon strength
Increase in myoglobin stores
Increased tolerance to lactate
