Muscle Development Form and Function Flashcards
Which muscle types are striated?
Skeletal Muscle and Cardiac Muscle
What part of the nervous system controls skeletal muscle contractions?
The peripheral CNS. These contractions are voluntary (conscious)
Which category of muscle tissue has multinucleated cells?
Skeletal muscle
What types of muscle does the peripheral nervous system control?
Smooth Muscle and Cardiac Muscle. Both of these are involuntary contractions.
What is the major protein found in the Z - line?
alpha - actinin
Where are the nuclei of each muscle fibre located in different types of muscle tissue?
Cardiac - central nuclei
Smooth - central nuclei
Skeletal - peripheral nuclei (you may find central nuclei in skeletal muscle if there has been damage to the area and new cells have repopulates, the nuclei will move to the periphery when the muscle cells mature)
