Muscle Contraction Flashcards
Sacromere?
Space in between two Z-lines
Motor Unit?
Makes/allows muscles to fire
1
Signal gets sent down the neuron
2
Signal hops in a vesicle and crosses the synaptic cleft and spreads across the sarcolemma; where it reaches the sarcoplasmic reticulum
3
Sarcoplasmic reticulum releases Calcium
4
Calcium reacts with tropomin and tropomisn exposing myosin binding sites
5
Myosin cross-bridgs bind and causes the sacromeres to fire
6
Acetylcholiesteraase decomposes the acetylcholine
7
Calcium is brought back to the sarcoplasmic reticulum; myosin and actin bonds are broken… arm relaxes
Muscle Fatigue?
muscle loses its ability to contract
Twitch?
Single/short contraction
Latent Period?
Period of relaxation after a contraction
Recruitment?
Learning to use more muscle fibers
Tone?
Sustained contraction of motor units
Slow Twitch?
Not explosive; last a long time
