Muscle And Muscle Tissue Flashcards
1
Q
Smooth muscle
A
- not in lines, non striated, one nucleus
Structure- long and tapered each with one nucleus that is arranged in parallel line to form sheets
Function- contraction is involuntary
Eg. walls of internal organs and blood vessels
2
Q
Cardiac muscle
A
- branched, one nuclei, non striated
Structure- forms the walls of the heart, the cells are tubular and non-striated, they have only one nucleus and are branched
Function- unique to the heart with involuntary contractions
Eg. heart
3
Q
Skeletal muscle
A
- striated, many nuclei
Structure- tubular and striated that are attached to the skeleton, they are long and have many nuclei and are referred to as fibres
Function- under conscious control and they move the skeleton
Eg. Biceps and triceps
4
Q
Muscle functions
A
- Support the body- contraction opposed to the force of gravity
- Make the skeleton move
- Maintain constant body temperature: the contraction causes atp to break down which releases heat
- Protect internal organs and stabilize joints
