Muscle Anatomy Flashcards
What are the 4 characteristics of skeletal muscle?
1.) Long Fibers
2.) Multinucleated
3.) Voluntary Movement
4.) Striated
What is the primary function of the Latissimus Dorsi?
Shoulder Extension
What are the 4 characteristics of skeletal muscle?
- Long fibers
- Multinucleated
- Voluntary Movement
- Striated
What is the function of the Latissimus Dorsi?
Shoulder Extension
Difference between Muscle cell and Muscle Fiber?
Both mean the same thing
What is Sarcolemma and it’s function?
The cell membrane of the muscle cell and it is the outside covering
What are Myofibrils?
The big circles that are bunched together and are located in muscle fibers
What is the blue stuff that contains calcium ions that allows us to contract muscles?
Sarcoplasmic Reticulum
What are the little dots in the myofibrils called?
Myofilaments
Describe the Terminal Cisternae…
Thick Blue ends that surround the transverse tubule
What is the purple stuff in between terminal cisternae?
Transverse Tubule
Mitochondria does what for the muscle?
Provides ATP for muscle to contract
The two types of myofilaments are what?
A bond and I bond
What is the primary mover responsible for action?
Agonist
Opposite direction of the agonist…
Antagonist
Muscle that assists an agonist, often by supplementing the contraction force…
Synergist
Where is the epicranius muscle and it’s function?
Frontal bone, used to raise eyebrows and wrinkle forehead.
Where is the orbicularis Oculi and it’s function?
Circular muscle around the eyes, used to close the eyes tight
Where is the Nasalis and what is it’s function?
Located on the bridge of the nose which helps to flare the nostril
Where is the zygomaticus and and what it’s function?
Located near the mouth and it elevates the outer lips, helps us smile
Where is the Orbicularis Oris and what is it’s function?
Around the top and bottom of our lips, helps us to kiss
Where is the risorius and what is it’s function?
Located lateral to the mouth, used to grimace when you see something you do not like
What does the depressor labii do?
Pulls the lower lip down
What does the depessor anguli oris do?
Makes a sad face
Where is the buccinator and what does it do?
Located in the cheeks and allows us to blow or whistle
Where is the temporalis and what is its function?
Close the mouth, elevate the mandible and it is located on the temporal bone.
Where is the masseter and what is it’s function?
Inferior to the temporal muscle and it’s function is to close the mouth and elevate the mandible
What is the big muscle in the neck attatched to the sternum and mastoid process?
Sternocleidomastoid
The trapezius is part of what muscle?
Neck Muscles
What is the 6 pack muscle called?
Rectus Abdominis
What is the line down the middle of the abs?
Linea Alba
What is the direction of the fibers in the external oblique?
Flows the same way you put your hands in your pockets
What is the function of the external oblique?
Flexion with rotation
Where is the internal oblique found?
Underneath/deeper of the external
Where is the pectoralis major?
Located on chest, big and superficial
Where is the pectoralis minor?
Underneath/deeper to the major
What is the belly button called?
Umbilicus
