Muscle Flashcards
Muscle function
Contractile tissue which srves to bring about movement
Alternates contraction with relaxation to carry out:
-body movement
-posture maintenance
-body sibstance movement, transport, storage
-heat generation
Three layers of muscle connective tissue from outside in
Epimysium
Perimysium
Endomysium
Sarcomeres
Muscle fibres are made up of sarcomeres
Contraction of myosin and actin in sarcomere for the muscle to contract
Refractory period
muscle has received one stiumulus to contract and cannot respond to a futher stimulus
muscle fibre types
Type I - slow oxidative
Type IIA - Fast oxidative-glycolytic
Type IIB - fast glycolytic
type - form of myosin present
hyperthrophy - increased nervous stimulation, more myofibrils, mitochondria and sarcoplasmic reticulum
artophy-lack of stimulation, loss of myofibrils
4muscle properties
- excitability
- contractility
- extensibilty
- elasticity
muscle systems
intrinsic-stays within a system
extrinsic-crosses systems
Muscle actions
- Agonist
- Antagonist
- Synergist
- prime mover of a joint
- acts to oppose the agonist
- helps the agonist at a specific joint
