multistore model of memory Flashcards
what are the three memory stores
sensory store
short term memory
long term memory
explain the sensory store
This store takes in information from our senses and retains it for a very brief time
according to the model how is information from the sensory store passed onto the short term memory
According to the model, information from the sensory store is encoded to short-term memory if we pay attention to it. If we do not pay attention then the information will be forgotten.
what are the sensory registers
gustatory- taste
olfactory- smell
tactile- touch
what is the evidence for this theory
serial position curve
what is the serial position curve
The serial position curve is based on research by Murdock.
explain the serial position curve
In this study, participants were read lists of random words.
Regardless of the length of the list or the speed with which items were read out, participants remembered more items from the beginning and end of each list.
what types of effects are there for for this theory
The primacy effect: where people remember more items from the beginning of a list.
The recency effect: where people remember more items from the end of a list.
The primacy effect: where people remember more items from the beginning of a list.
The recency effect: where people remember more items from the end of a list.
