Q

How does information move in the Multi-store model?

A

Linearly, it enters at the sensory register and is passed along through a series of processes

Q

How, according to the multi-store model, do we respond?

A

Information is retrieved from the Long term memory to the short term memory where we can respond

16
Q

What is the duration of Long term memory?

A

Life time

17
Q

What is coding?

A

The way in which information is processed

18
Q

What is the coding of the sensory register?

A

Its modality free - not one type

19
Q

What us the coding of the short term memory?

A

Acoustic

20
Q

What is the coding of the Long term memory?

A

Semantic

21
Q

What study tested the capacity of the Short term memory?

A

Jacobs’ digit span test
- P’s would see a letter or number and have to recall it and every time the amount would increase: Avg letter = 7.3 Avg number = 9.3

22
Q

What study tested the duration of short term memory?

A

Peterson and Peterson’s nonsense trigrams
- P’s would get 3 random letters and have to then count back in 3s from 100 for a duration of time and then recall the letters: The longest they could go without maintenance rehearsal was 20 seconds

23
Q

What was the test for duration of Long term memory?

A

Barick’s yearbook recall
- He tested P’s ability to recall their class, in one group with photos and one group without: 90% could match faces 14 years later and 60% could match faces 47 years later

24
Q

What was the test of coding for both long term and short term memory?

A

Baddeley’s acoustic semantic test
- 8 groups learnt 4 different sets of words and had to recall them at the time or a week later: words which were acoustically similar were recalled worse immediately and semantically similar words were recalled worse a week later

25
Q

Why does Clive wearing cause doubt in the Multi-store model?

A

His episodic memory failed after his accident but his procedural and semantic still worked meaning it is not a single store

26
Q

How does patient HM support the theory?

A

Patient HM could access short term memory but not long term memory thus proving they were different stores
