Composite
A whole number that has more than two factors.
Prime
A whole number with two factors, one and itself.
Prime Factorization
A way of expressing a composite number as a product of it’s prime factors.
Squared
A number raised to the second power.
Power
A number obtained by raising an exponent.
Base
In a power, the number is used a a factor.
Powers of 10
A number like 10, 100, 1,000, and so on. It is the result of using only 10 as a factor.
Cubed
Raised to the third power.
Exponent
In a power, this number represents the number of times the base is used as a factor.
Distributive Property
This property states that to multiply a number by a sum, you can multiply each addend by the number and add the products.
Compatible Numbers
Numbers that are easy to multiply mentally.
Product
The answer to a multiplication equation.
