A

Chronic immune mediated inflammatory conditions of CNS
- Affects brain, optic nerves, spinal cord
- Leads to severe disability
- No cure
- Treatments used to reduce freq & duration of relapses and to slow/prevent disability.

Drugs
Interferon beta
Glatiramer acetate
Fingolimod (Oral for high active disease)
Natalizumab (only for rapidly evolving disease state)

  • Regular vit D - helps prevent relapse

During relapse - corticosteroid recommended
- Oral methylprednisolone - 1st line
ALT IV form if above fail/unsuitable

Fatigue/Impaired mobility
Amantadine, SSRi, modafinil.
- Vit b12 injection not recommended
- Fampridine for walking Pts

Spasticity
(Stiff/Rigid muscles)
1st line - Baclofen
ALT Gabapentin
Adjunct 4 week trial cannabis.

Oscillopsia
Visual issues everything is moving but nothing is
- Gabapentin 1st line

Emotional issues
Amitriptyline
ALT Memantine
