It divides the world into discrete, knowable parts, handles emotion almost oppressively, focuses on self-actualization and independence, emphasizes clarity and precision of written word, is oriented toward youth and the linear ‘doing’ view of time.

Aimed at helping clients to find meaning and repair damaged relationships by helping them move from self-centredness to awareness of influence of important relationships, narrow focus on self leads to pain and neuroses

A decisional counseling model that raises consciousness of multicultural issues and is the lifelong process of identifying our primary needs, roles and goals and how they are integrated into all aspects of our lives

What is cultural identity development?
A cognitive, emotional and behavioural progression and expansion through identifiable and measurable stages of consciousness which involves a different self-identity at each stage

1- embedded awareness of self as cultural being
2- encounter with the reality of cultural issues
3- naming of the cultural issues
4- reflection on the meaning of self as a cultural being
5- internalization and multiperspective thought about self-in-system
What is proposition 3?
CID is a significant influence on how the client and counsellour view each other and themselves, and everyone else and are affected by how the different groups interact and their heirarchy. The stage of identity for both client and cllr with also influence the purpose and process of the therapy.
