Q

Supporting Evidence

A

Murdock (1962) found that recall was higher for the words at the beginning (sent to LTM) and the end of the list (still in STM), with words in the middle more often forgotten (displacement).
This supports MSM as it shows that memory has two distinct stores, STM and LTM.

Q

Critical Evidence

A

Bartlett’s reconstructive memory suggests that that memory is one single store that we can later retrieve information from. This suggests MSM may be unnecessarily complex by creating different memory stores like STM and LTM with different functions.
