Multi-Store Memory Model Flashcards
What are the 3 stores?
Sensory Register, Short Term Memory and Long Term Memory
Who first described the MSM?
Richard Atkison and Richard Shiffrin
What is needed for information to go from the sensory register to the STM?
Attention given to information in the sensory register
What is needed for information to go from STM to LTM
Maintenance Rehearsal, where information is repeated
What do you do in order to remember information from the LTM?
Retrieval, the act of bringing back that information to the STM
What supports the Multi-Store Model?
Brain scans show difference in area of the brain being used for the STM and LTM
Why is the MSM considered to be too simple?
Because it believes that STM and LTM are unitary stores and have no more depth
What did Ruchkins study find?
Ruchkin found that STM uses LTM and therefore STM can’t come first.
