multi store memory, and working memory + Landry and Bartling + Miller Flashcards

1
Q

What is working memory

A

Working memory is the small amount of info that can be held in mind and conscious in that moment and used in the execution of cognitive tasks

Q

What is the working memory model

A

it sees memory as manipulating different kinds of information in the mind in the given moment. It acknowledges that there are different components that are all distinct from each other looking at the complexity of different types of working memory

Q

Two parts of the phonological loop and explain them

A

inner voice and inner ear. Inner voice is the voice in your head for rehersal, The inner ear is linked to speech perception helping us hear and comprehend speech it helps hold info in a speech based form for 1-2 seconds

Q

Procedure for Landry and Bartling

A

had two groups of people of independent design they took one condition in the experimental and there was a control condition that had no concurrent task
Group 1 memorized the letters group 2 performed a task saying 22222 while memorizing the list
Group 2 had there inner voice was suppressed by saying 22222 outloud becasue they werent able to reherse the letters in there head

Q

How does landry and bartling demonstrate the working memory model

A

This study demonstrates that working memory model because it shows that if articulatory suppression takes place memory is weakened for a list of words it gives support for the notion for an articulatory group in the WMM

Q

What is the Multi store memory model?

A

It proposes that there are three distinct memory stores in the brain: sensory memory, short-term memory (STM), and long-term memory (LTM)

Q

Procedure for miller

A

Uni students in america were asked to memorize a string of numbers and the numbers increased each time they repeated it

16
Q

Aim of miller

A

Aim was to investigate capacity of someone’s short term memory

17
Q

Results for miller

A

Results found they could find 7 +- two digits before errors started occurring meaning that the brain STM had capacity for 7digits

18
Q

How did miller demonstrate MSM

A

The study demonstrated msm because it suggests a capacity of STM
Shows there’s a specific capacity of how much u can remember
Shows that STM has a fixed storage limit before it is lost or transferred to LTM.
