  1. Scientific Revolution- (scientific method: Sir Frances Bacon)- challenged traditional ideas to prove or disprove ideas.
  2. Liberalism (John Locke)- built off the idea that challenged traditionalism of government and its power.
    These things lead to representational government. US constitution in the US. Seperating church and state. New political system that protects the individual, not the monarch.

Challenged monarchy- Assumed that the king always be king, should their heir be the next rule, do they know what is best, are they always right?
Assumption- If you were born into a class system, you stay in the class system. People should be self made and can be anything they want to be. 
These ideas from the age of Englightenment. They challenged facts and gave reasons for things.

Thomas Jefferson- Signed and wrote the Declaration of Independence

The founding fathers to write the Declaration of independence.
All men created equal
Everyone has rights to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness
DOI also included a list of reasons as to why they should break away from Great Britain- something used from the scientific method- reasons to back up your argument

Britain passes the Coercive Acts- Event that fires up the rebel against Great Britain- acting like a tyranny.

  2. They arrest anyone who says, protests, or writes about British gov
  3. Go into houses and take away weapons
  4. No access to a fair trial. You are tried in a secret court. There are no jury or witnesses. You could stay there forever.
