What is the mons veneris and what is it covered in?
fatty later of tissue covered with skin and hair
What is the labia minora filled with?
glands, blood vessels, nerve endings, making it very sensitive
What happens to the labia minora during arousal?
vasocongestion - darkens and swells minora
Where is the clitoris located?
where the labia minora and labia majora meet
What is the glans, and what is is made out of (female)?
external part of clitoris, pearl sized, v sensitive, made of corpus spongiosum, covered by clitoral hood
What is the shaft?
internal part of clitoris, made of 2 corpora cavernosa
What is the crura? What shape does it have?
internal extension of the clitoris, giving the clit a wishbone structure, extends 3 inches long and enwraps the urethra
What are the vestibular bulbs associated with?
associated with the clitoris
What is the structure and location of the vestibular bulbs?
curved erectile tissue, surrounding vestible, underlies labia minora
What else if the vaginal opening referred to as?
introitus
What is the perenium and what is the process of cutting it called?
the area between the vagina and anus, cutting is called episiotomy
What are the elastic vaginal walls made out of?
mucosa, intermediate muscle, fimbria elastic
What are the physiological changes during sexual arousal (female)?
vasocongetion - swelling and deepening of color of labia minora & lubrication
What is the location of the uterus & what is its shape?
it lies inside the pelvic cavity. it has an upside down pear shape and is hollow
What are the 3 layers of the uterus?
endometrium, myometrium, peremetrium
Where is the cervix and what is its function?
back of the vagina, small end of uterus, separates the vagina and the uterus, holds the baby until it’s ready
What is the OS?
a constricted opening of the cervix that connects the vagina to a short canal opening into the uterus
Describe the oviducts
fallopian tubes, forms pathway between uterus, right/left ovaries, fertilization takes place here
What are fimbria?
fingerlike projections near oviducts that catch the ovum
What is ovulation?
the release of mature ova
What are the ovaries function?
ovulation & production/secretion of sex hormones
What is the menstrual discharge made of?
endometrial tissue and blood
What are the 3 cycles of the menstrual cycle?
- menstruation phase: menstruation flow
- preovulatory: end of menstrual phase
- postovulatory: ovulation to menstruation
What are the factors that can increase/decrease breast cancer?
age, genetics, obesity, alcohol, medical history, exercise, hormones
