LANGUAGE REGISTER
also called linguistic register and speech register
LANGUAGE REGISTER
describes the way a person speaks in relation to their audience

is defined as a style of writing which looks at the things from the reader’s point of view, emphasizing what the reader wants to know, respecting the reader’s intelligence and protecting the reader’s ego
INFORMAL REGISTER
This is also called conversational style
INFORMAL REGISTER
used in speech and informal writing, uses short, simple words, slang expressions and contractions. It has a friendly and personal tone
INFORMAL REGISTER
Is more casual in tone and is appropriate for people with whom you have established a more personal
relationship as in the case of friends and relatives
INFORMAL REGISTER
This type of writing may sometimes be emotional as an intimate relationship exists between the speaker and the listener or writer and reader
INFORMAL REGISTER
Incomplete sentences maybe used and paragraphing may be illogical or absent
LEGALESE OR LEGAL LANGUAGE
Highly characterized by archaic expressions, technical jargon, intrinsic only to the community of
legal professionals, embedded structures, passive voice and kilometric sentences
LEGALESE OR LEGAL LANGUAGE
Legalese continues to be in use partly because it saves time. It can be challenging to explain a
complicated legal concept fully while also keeping it brief
