MT#2 2nd Qtr Flashcards
3 types of Mixtures
Solution, Suspension, and Colloid.
Homogeneous mixtures having two or more components that are uniformly distributed. (Simplified: A mixture where a substance is dissolved.)
Solutions
The substance that is dissolved in a solution. (Simplified: Substance that gets dissolved.)
Solute
The substance in which the solute is dissolved. (Simplified: Dissolves the solute)
Solvent
TRUE OR FALSE:
A solution might exist in liquid, solid, or gas.
True
TRUE OR FALSE:
Vinegar is an example of a solution.
True
TRUE OF FALSE:
Gelatin is an example of a solution
False
A heterogeneous mixture containing larger particles that settle out when left undisturbed. (Simplified: Mixture where the substances do not mix when combined.)
Suspension
TRUE OR FALSE:
Gelatin and water is an example of a suspension.
False
TRUE OR FALSE:
Oil and water mixes so it is an example of a solution.
False
TRUE OR FALSE:
Gravel and water is an example of a suspension.
True
A heterogeneous mixture with a midway particle size between a solution and a suspension. (Simplified: Mixture where you can see small particles.)
Colloid
A phenomenon where the dispersed colloid particles scatter light.
Tyndall effect
TRUE OR FALSE:
Milk is an example of a colloid.
True
TRUE OR FALSE:
Blood is NOT an example of a colloid
