Carry Out Pre Operational check

A
  • Starting at the stern and working in an anti-clockwise (or clockwise) direction
  • Check the engine is mounted correctly (centered on the transom with spindles tight)
  • Safety lanyard is on and secured
  • Fuel line and kill switch are attached
  • Check the prop guard by physically making sure no veins are loose
  • Visually and physically check all bolts are present and tight
  • Visually and physically check the prop and split pin are present and secured appropriately
  • BA cylinder is turned on and secured in place, manifold is fitted correctly and sleeves in the off position
  • Check pressure relief valve caps are off
  • Ensure scuppers are clear from obstruction
  • Check fuel bladder is secured, connected and primed (and has enough fuel)
  • Check foot straps are secured
  • Check all grab lines, D rings, handles and flip lines are present and secured
  • Check IC valves have been set to navigate
  • Check bow rig (bridle)
  • Make sure keel inflation line is disconnected
  • Check all grab lines, D rings, handles and flip lines are present and secured
  • Check IC valves have been set to navigate
  • Check gear bag is present and secured with appropriate equipment
  • Check paddles are present and secured appropriately for operation

Trailered Start of Shift Check

A

Start of Shift Checks
Begin checks at tow point and systematically work around the trailer back to starting point but on the opposite side of the hitch.
Checking -
- Hitch
- Safety chains
- Brake lever and cable
- Light cable and plug
- Spare tyre and rim
- Second motor and slide mount (housed correctly)
- Trailer lights and number plate not damaged
- Fuel in jerry can
- Boat, motor and boxes all secured safely (ratchet’s/tie downs) including bow attachment point to trailer and ratchet straps through boat handles
- Secure ancillary equipment including paddles etc.

Hitching Trailer

A

Hitching Trailer
- Utilising a spotter, reverse the vehicle to the trailer hitch ensuring the hitch is higher than the vehicle ball and the hitch handle is raised.
- Lower the trailer onto the tow ball and once lowered ensure hitch handle is housed correctly.
- House the jockey wheel and secure the jockey wheel handle to ensure no damage is caused in transit.
- If the trailer has a single tow safety chain, simply attach. If the trailer has a double safety chain, cross the chains over first and then attach.
- Attach lighting plug (utilise adaptor lighting plug if required)
- Place trailer brake lever in the released position and the brake isolation latch in the open position to allow activation.

Incident Arrival and Craft Launching

A

On arrival, site the vehicle in a safe area and release ratchets/tie downs from the boat and motor, leaving only the bow attached to the trailer. Store removed ratchets/ tie downs in the vehicle’s passenger footwell.
- Remove the engine from the engine support bracket and secure the motor in the upward stowage position. This will ensure damage does not occur to the prop or skeg during launching. Store engine support bracket with ratchets/tie downs in the vehicle’s passenger footwell.
- Ensure drain plugs are in place and secured
- Don PPC
