Bleeding out?
Is blood flow obstructed from injury or splinting? = Realign to prevent ischemia, re-splint to regain flow
Nerve Compromise
Possible Nerve damage
Stabilizing
C-Collar for C-spine
Splinting Long Bones to prevent further injury
Wounds
Higher Infection Rates (especially if open fracture)
3= Saline wash & cover w/ bandage
Traction Splint Indications & Contraindications
Indicated:
Midshaft Femur only
Contraindicated:
- Open Femur fracture
- If pelvic, knee, ankle injury also
Transporting patients post amputated digits
Wrap the digits in saline soaked gauze, place in a plastic bag, then put that on ice
Do not put digits directly on ice!
