MSA TEST Flashcards

1
Q

what are the 4 pre-installation requirement for bolt/screw

A
  1. bolt length should be chosen such that grip length is same thickness as materials joined
  2. nut must never be screwed down against the last thread on bolt

3.If there is no washer like bearing surface , washer placed under head

4.if grip length is too long, use plain washers to act as shims to prevent nut reaching last thread

  1. IF NOT SPECIFIED IN MANUAL, bolt should be installed with the head upwards, forwards or inboard to prevent bolt from falling out if nut not secured

Q

How to identify a self-locking nut and non-locking nut?

A
  • need no auxiliary means of safety but have a safety feature included as integral part of construction
  • Self locking nuts have nylok inserts known as Nylok. Nylok forms around the screw threads and prevents nut from loosening.

MS20365 low temp self locking nuts used on bolts or machine screws are prevented from vibrating loose by elastic start

A
  1. ensure that they are free from all contamination
  2. Removed from sealed package and inspected for defects such as blemishes, abrasions, cuts or punctures
  3. Look out for slight surface flaws by using magnifying glass if required with adequate lighting
  4. Roll the ring on inspection cone or dowel, inner diameter surface checked for small cracks, particles of foreign material that cause leakage or shorten life of o-ring
  5. slightly stretch o-ring when rolled inside out to reveal defects not visible
5a. avoid using sharp edged or pointed tools that cause scratching or marring of hydraulic component surface
  6. immmerse the o-ring in clean hydraulic fluid

Q

What is the medium used in transmission of force between pneumatic and hydraulic?

A

Pneumatic: Air
Hydraulic : Liquid

17
Q

What is Voltage,Resistance and current and their relationship with each other?

A

Voltage: measure of potential difference between 2 points
Resistance: Force that opposes the flow of current in a circuit
Current: movement or flow electrical charges

V=IR

18
Q

What is the main difference between open and short circuit?

A

Open : disconnection at any point in circuit
Short: electrical circuit in a device of lower resistance than that of normal circuit

19
Q

What type of AFL has frangible mounting? Why does it have frangible mounting?

A

Elevated runway edge and elevated taxiway edge lights. Fitting will shatter upon impact to prevent further damage to aircraft

20
Q

What is the main function of CCR?

A
  • produce constant current output independent of variations in circuit load and in voltage of power source

secondary function: 2 or more output currents when dimming of lights

21
Q

What are 2 key features of CCR?

A
  1. Has Protective relays to guard against over current and open circuit in external load circuitry
  2. powered from PUB mains at 2 phase 415V
22
Q

Why are AFL connected in series?

A
  • connected in a string with same current flowing in each element
  • If fixed input voltage connected to load, current in circuit would vary with connected load
  • However, CCR maintain constant current independent of load
  • Thus, same current flow in long circuit as in shorter circuit and remain the same even if some lamps fail
  • Short circuit across the output of a constant curent regulator is a no-load condition and open circuit is overload
23
Q

What are the PAPI light colours pilot would see when on correct approach slope?

A
