MRS.T Flashcards
wind
he perceptible natural movement of the air, especially in the form of a current of air blowing from a particular direction.
density
the degree of compactness of a substance.
convection
the movement caused within a fluid by the tendency of hotter and therefore less dense material to rise, and colder, denser material to sink under the influence of gravity, which consequently results in transfer of heat.
climate
the weather conditions prevailing in an area in general or over a long period.
Coriolis effect
an effect whereby a mass moving in a rotating system experiences a force (the Coriolis force ) acting perpendicular to the direction of motion and to the axis of rotation. On the earth, the effect tends to deflect moving objects to the right in the northern hemisphere and to the left in the southern and is important in the formation of cyclonic weather systems
Hemisphere
a half of a sphere.
Air pressure
the force exerted onto a surface by the weight of the air. An example of air pressure is the average sea-level air pressure of 101.325 kPA.
Debris
scattered pieces of waste or remains.
Radiation
the emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving subatomic particles, especially high-energy particles that cause ionization.
Conduction
the process by which heat or electricity is directly transmitted through a substance when there is a difference of temperature or of electrical potential between adjoining regions, without movement of the material.
Kinetic energy
energy that a body possesses by virtue of being in motion.
