Who should be screened for MRSA?
A
- All patients awaiting elective admissions
- All emergency admissions

What are the risk factors MRSA?
A
- Chronic illnesses resulting in multiple healthcare visits,
- Living in crowded conditions,
- Prior antibiotic use,
- History of MRSA
- HIV

How can a patient be screened for MRSA?
A
- Nasal swab (wiped around inside of nose for 5 seconds) and skin swab. Then sent to micro labelled ‘MRSA screen’

How can you suppress MRSA once a carrier is identified?
A
- In the nose you can use mupirocin 2% for 5 days
- Clorhexidine gluconate wash for 5 days

What antibiotics can be used in the treatment of MRSA infections?
A
- Vancomycin,
- Teicoplanin
- Linezolid

What sort of infections does MRSA cause?
A
- Skin and soft tissue infections,
- Bacteremia
- Endocarditis
- Septic arthritis
- UTI
- Osteomyelitis
